Artificial Hardwood Replacement for Dry Docking Blocks
This grant opportunity seeks the development of a new material to replace hardwood blocks used in dry docking ships. The material must withstand compression forces applied perpendicular to the direction of the wood grain. While the current choice, wood, is used because it effectively manages these forces, the new material does not need to mimic the appearance or grain structure of wood.
