Survivable & Affordable Lens Technology (SALT)
This effort seeks to develop low-cost infrared optics for affordable, survivable unmanned drone payloads. Researchers will investigate whether alkali-halide optical materials can replace more expensive materials used in military-grade uncooled infrared sensors. A target use case is pairing an uncooled 640x512 infrared detector with an 18 mm, F/1.1 imaging lens with >70% transmission.
